Meteorite Pendants

 The Campo Del Cielo meteorite fell to earth in Gran Chaco, Gualamba, Chaco, Argentina about 500 miles north of Buenos Aries. Scientists have dated the fall as occurring 4000 - 6000 years ago. The first dated human discovery of part of the meteorite is in 1576 when a Spanish governor learned of it from the region's indigenous people who reportedly believed that it fell from the sky. Large masses tens of tons in size were later found about 5 meters (~16 ft) below the surface in a dozen or so craters scattered about the large strewn field which also contains many smaller fragments like the ones offered here.  Analysis shows this to be an iron meteorite containing 6-7% nickel and trace amounts of cobalt, phosphorous, gallium, germanium, and iridium as well as silicate inclusions.  It is classified as a polycrystalline coarse octahedrite meteorite.  Campo Del Cielo means field of the sky (or heaven), and the name may come from early indigenous lore.

We also have a few pendants that are fragments of the Sikhote-Alin' meteorite which fell in Eastern Russia in 1947.
